Red House

Description
The "Red House" is a listed stepped gabled house with an adjoining residential tower and a barn. It was built in 1338 and got its name from the dark red paint on the house. This red coloring can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century. A previous building was demolished in the 15th century at the latest. It has had several owners over the years, including the St. Johann monastery.
The residential tower has four storeys and an almost square floor plan. It is topped off with a slightly bent pyramid roof. The exterior façade of the first floor and the first two upper floors are made of unclad and unhewn natural stone, while the fourth floor is plastered and has chamfered tower corners.
It has been owned by the Rheinberger family since 1807. The painter, sculptor and architect extended the house from 1902 to 1905. The Red House is privately owned and is not open to the public.
