Daily stage Balzers to Triesenberg

The stage leads from Balzers, in the southernmost part of Liechtenstein, to Triesenberg.

Visible from afar is Gutenberg Castle, perched around 70 vertical metres above Balzers. After passing this medieval fortress, the Liechtenstein Trail takes walkers through the municipality of Balzers and along the old Roman road as far as Triesen. As we reach the oldest part of the village we arrive at the old factory complex formerly home to the cotton-spinning company Jenny, Spörry & Cie.

Leaving behind the Gasometer culture and arts centre in Triesen, the route leads uphill to the St. Mamerten Chapel. This is a good place to stop for a moment and admire the view. The next section is a steep climb up to the Walser settlement of Triesenberg, whose village centre lies at around 900 metres above sea level. Triesenberg was originally founded in the 13th/14th century when Walser people from the neighbouring region settled in Liechtenstein. Over the centuries the Walser community has been able to maintain its history and traditions.
