Via Alpina

In the international year of the mountains in 2000, the alpine countries have set the target to establish a non-stop and specially marked long-distance hiking trail, linking all the countries.

Launched in 2000, the Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail connects the national hiking trails with the international mountain world. With a total length of over 2000 kilometres, the Via Alpina crosses the eight Alpine countries of Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France and Monaco. It takes 116 stages to get from Trieste to Monaco. The route was adapted in 2024 and now has a new course, especially in Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

In Liechtenstein, the Via Alpina leads from Feldkirch to the Gafadura hut and from there to the Sücka mountain inn before descending to Vaduz and leaving the country in the direction of Sargans. The route is divided into the following three stages:

• Stage 56: Feldkirch - Gafadura hut
• Stage 57: Gafadura hut - Sücka
• Stage 58: Sücka - Sargans (via Vaduz)

All in all, the three stages are an excellent way to discover Liechtenstein. A particular highlight on the route is the Fürstensteig trail, which offers fabulous views of the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance.

Tip: A detour from the Berggasthaus Sücka to the Gänglesee is well worthwhile (approx. 2km).

Approach alternative A: If travelling by bus to Planken, get off at the Hotel Saroja bus stop. From there, walk up to the Gafadura cabin (distance: 3.5 kms / elevation difference: 640 m).

Approach alternative B: Alpine ascent via the Three Sisters.

Approach alternative C: From Feldkirch via the "Naturfreundehaus Feldkircher Hütte" and the "Drei Schwestern"
