Old Settlement sites at Prufatscheg
High above the Rhine valley, we visit the most beautiful settlement sites of the Walser who immigrated 700 years ago: Prufatscheg homestead, which is under preservation order; Masescha, a sunny plateau with its Theoduls Chapel; Gnalp and Mitätsch, magnificent pastureland depressions; and the residential area of Steinort.
Wonderful round trip above the heights of Triesenberg, following mostly car-free roadways and grassy footpaths. The Philosophers path links the sun-blessed residential area of Masescha with the Mitätsch pastureland and its small old Walser hay barns. This hike is especially pretty during the flowering season or in autumn when fog and mist cover the Rhine valley.
Tip: Detour to the nearby residential areas of Silum, Alpelti, Matu or Gaflei.
Family tip: Visit the Walser Museum in Triesenberg.
Alternative A: Descent from Steinort via the hamlet of Wangerberg, through forest and over meadows, to Triesen (distance: 2.6 kms).
