Bust of Reigning Prince Franz Josef II by Kees Verkade
The Municipality of Vaduz commissioned the artwork from Kees Verkade, a Dutch sculptor residing in Monaco, in 2006 to mark the occasion of the 100th birthday of Prince Franz Josef II.
The bust commemorates the fact that he was the first Sovereign Prince to live in Liechtenstein. It was under his rule that Liechtenstein developed from an agrarian to a modern industrial and service-industry state. Prince Franz Josef was a very popular father-figure of Liechtenstein.
