Daily stage Vaduz to Nendeln
From Vaduz this stage leads us through Schaan to Planken and from there down to Nendeln.
Following the Liechtenstein Trail in Vaduz, we climb steadily past the Prince of Liechtenstein Winery through the old district of Vaduz to the Red House, where a wonderful view of Vaduz Castle awaits. We then continue along a forest path to the University of Liechtenstein. The trail becomes flatter here and leads to the site of a mountain torrent (known as a Rüfe) and then to the ruins of a Roman fort in the centre of Schaan.
In Schaan we climb up to the St. Elisabeth Nunnery before a short flat section to a building known as the Gamanderhaus. From the Gamanderhaus, we climb about 300 vertical metres along forest paths up to Planken. Liechtenstein's smallest municipality offers a magnificent view of the valley and the Three Sisters mountain range above Planken. Now comes the very steep descent along a mountain trail down to Nendeln. From Nendeln, the path leads us past the remains of a Roman estate and into the centre of Nendeln.

The ascent to / descent from Vaduz Castle is short and steep along Schlossweg trail. The 1km section between Planken and Nendeln is very steep and has around 200 metres of vertical ascent. It requires good physical fitness, sturdy footwear and sure-footedness. This section should not be used in wet and snowy conditions. There is also the option of taking bus number 26 from Planken via Schaan to Nendeln (journey time 25 minutes). The LIstory app requires permanent GPS tracking and processes a lot of data, so we recommend taking a mobile charging device for your phone with you.
