Flora in Liechtenstein

It is largely thanks to Liechtenstein's rich and varied flora that so many different species of animal continue to find the habitats they need to flourish.

Liechtenstein's flora can be divided into three main areas: the Rhine Valley floor, the mountain slopes of the Rhine Valley and the Alps. Areas close to the Rhine tend to be dominated by alluvial soil, while further north boggy soil is more common.

Wih the warm Föhn wind creating a pleasantly warm climate, Liechtenstein is also home to many plants more traditionally found in the Mediterranean.

The country has a total of 1600 plant species, of which 800 are native to the mountains. Indeed, in Liechtenstein alone there are no fewer than 48 different types of orchid. The richest and most diverse habitat for plants is the Ruggeller Riet nature reserve.
